Graduation & Goodbye

Well, our last day together in Room 11 has arrived. Thank you all for being such wonderful learners and for being so nice to work with. As I said on graduation night, each of you has individual and unique strengths. I hope that you will focus on these strengths always and be proud of them, use them to solve problems, make plans and build your resilience. I reproduced the words I chose for you below. Mr O Sé also put the pencil poem on his blog. Enjoy the photos of graduation - you were brilliant on the night and it was a pleasure to say goodbye to you in such a warm atmosphere.

I know you will all  blossom in secondary school! We will miss each and every one of you.

Slán!

Look who's coming to our school next year!

Seán's sister Amy came to see us in the outdoor classroom. What a great, social, sparkling girl she is! We think she is so lucky to have a big brother who is so kind and caring towards her. Amy will be in Ms Giblin's Junior Infants next year.

Amy, we will be so sad to have to say goodbye to Seán and all the boys and girls in 6th class but it makes us very happy to see all the lovely children coming into Junior Infants with you next year. Don't forget to come and visit me and tell me how Seán is doing in secondary school.

The Truth Behind Those Fairytales You Thought You Knew!

Well done to you all boys and girls! You did a fantastic job on the school play. I hope all the parents who came enjoyed it, for those who couldn't make it here are some of the highlights....

Goldilocks
This famous wicked little tale
Should never have been put on sale.
It is a mystery to me
Why loving parents cannot see
That this is actually a book
About a brazen little crook.
Had I the chance I wouldn't fail
To clap young Goldilocks in jail....

You'd think by now this little skunk
Would have the sense to do a bunk.
But no. I very much regret
She hasn't nearly finished yet.
Deciding she would like a rest,
She says, 'Let's see which bed is best.'

Most educated people choose
To rid themselves of socks and shoes
Before they clamber into bed.
But Goldie didn't give a shred.
Her filthy shoes were thick with grime,
And mud and mush and slush and slime.
Worse still, upon the heel of one
Was something that a dog had done.

 Crime One, the prosecution's case:
She breaks and enters someone's place
Crime Two, the prosecutor notes:
She steals a bowl of porridge oats
Crime Three: She breaks a precious chair
Belonging to the Baby Bear.
Crime Four: She smears each spotless sheet
With filthy messes from her feet.
A judge would say without a blink,
'Ten years hard labour in the clink!'

CINDERELLA

I guess you think you know this story.
You don't. The real one's much more gory.
The phoney one, the one you know,
Was cooked up years and years ago,
And made to sound all soft and sappy
just to keep the children happy......

She bellowed 'Help!' and 'Let me out!
The Magic Fairy heard her shout.
Appearing in a blaze of light,
She said: 'My dear, are you all right?'
'All right?' cried Cindy .'Can't you see
'I feel as rotten as can be!'
She beat her fist against the wall,
And shouted, 'Get me to the Ball!
'There is a Disco at the Palace!
'The rest have gone and I am jealous!
'I want a dress! I want a coach!
'And earrings and a diamond brooch!
'And silver slippers, two of those!
'And lovely nylon panty hose!
'Done up like that I'll guarantee
'The handsome Prince will fall for me!'

One tried it on. The Prince screamed, 'No!'
But she screamed, 'Yes! It fits! Whoopee!
'So now you've got to marry me!'
The Prince went white from ear to ear.
He muttered, 'Let me out of here.'
'Oh no you don't! You made a vow!
'There's no way you can back out now!'

Celebration Day

On Friday 10th June our school had a celebration day to mark our many achievements this year. We

  • won two soccer tournaments
  • achieved our Green Flag for Transport
  • won the Excellence in Primary Science Awards
  • launched our website
  • received the Creative Schools Award and
  • officially opened our Seomra Glas, the outdoor classroom we were awarded for being in the top five schools nationally to win Biodiverse School Garden 2010.

Our class showed the parents why we achieved this national prize for biodiversity by leading tours around the school grounds. We would like to extend a special thanks to school horticulturalist, Mary Ryan, for her tireless work which enabled us to win this amazing award.

The winning soccer team!

Summer Play!

Dear Parents,

Our school play is tomorrow from 9.20 to 11. We are looking forward to seeing most of you there. Here is a little preview! For the parents who can't make it tomorrow we will post some videos on the blog. I can't believe how well the children have put this together considering we only had 4 days after Delphi to work on it! Look closely and you will see we have a few additional girls in the class.....
