Visit to Lusk Community hospital

When I taught these children in 4th class we twinned with the Thursday day group in Lusk Community Hospital. With Mr McGrath's help, the children and their older friends have kept up the connection through 5th and 6th classes and we went back to visit on Thursday 16th December. Everyone was so happy to see each other! We all missed James Dore who sadly passed away since our last visit

We ended the afternoon with an old fashioned sing-song. The older friends sang 'Ramona', 'When I leave this world behind' (this brought lots of tears to our children's eyes) and 'The town I loved so well' amongst others. Mr O Se and I were so proud of all the children. One of the clients said 'They are so kind, respectful and confident without ever being cheeky'.

Our community hospitals do so much important, tireless and unseen work. I understand that this is the only nurse led day facility for the elderly in the whole of North Fingal and the waiting lists are very long to access this service. I hope they will be protected in these tough economic times.
